Shotgun Wedding!

So we're going to try to get hitched (again, for the third time!) this afternoon down at the NYC marriage bureau.
There's a story behind all of this....

New York state is 'supposed' to legally recognize gay marriage performed by other states. Chicken and I were legally married in Santa Cruz, California last August. We were told we could take our license to NY and 'fill in' our new last names on that license...and voila! We would be legal and have our new last name legal as well.
Then....out came Prop 8. And no one knew what was going to happen so we were advised to wait...and wait...
By the time the news came that our marriage was indeed still legal, we were too busy and/or out of the country, to go down to the courthouse and test this.

A few weeks ago, I happened to meet with the director of the Marriage Equality NY and explained our situation. She was intrigued and said she hadn't heard of anyone trying to do this before (with the legal name change added). She asked if she could send a cameraman with us to do a documentary of the entire process when we were ready to go down there.

Cue the Chicken finishing her project, coming home and having time to make a trip to the courthouse! Woohoo Chicken is on a little break from traveling (only 2 weeks).

So off we go today at 1pm to see if we can get our marriage recognized and change our last names to our new-and-improved same last name.

It would be great if this works. Wish us luck!

Oh my goodness! Congratulations & good luck! That is wonderful. You do know you can both be on the birth certificate, right? Speeds & I are off to CT in Sept to get our out-of-state marriage on so we can get recognized in NY.
It's only a matter of time before the whole anti-gay-marriage house of cards comes tumbling down as it is becoming an increasingly byzantine system to keep in place with all the different state laws...

You know, Chicken did knock you up: the least she can do is marry you now. I think the shotgun wedding is called for ;)

I love a shot gun wedding especially when involves a camera crew and some tricky legal foot work. Happy wedding day again girls!

I hope that it works for you!!! We did our seprate. We got married in San Diego, CA in October but before that had our names legally changed at the courthouse...

I hope that they fix everything up for you and you, chicken and babies to be will all have the same last name!

This stuff makes me so mad! Best of luck tomorrow. I hope your personal camera crew captures nothing but congratulations and well-wishes all around. Silly NY Senate needs to hurry up and just legalize same-sex marriage.

Yeah -do it in style with a camera crew! We are aspiring to a shotgun wedding too - just gotta get knocked up! Can't wait to see the movie!

Dude. I hope they don't give you any trouble. But if they do, you need to clutch at your belly and throw your head back and yell, "But the twins! What about the future of our babies?" I'm imagining this with a little Scarlett O'Hara lilt to your voice, but that is totally up to you. :)
