For Those of You Who Had a C Section

Humor me and tell me how long you bled?
Because I feel like I'm working on a world record here as it will be 9 weeks in 2 days.
I left the hospital with enough mesh panties and pads to last 6 weeks because I expected that...but this is getting ridiculous.

Plus, I'm not a butt panty kind of Puff. I remember when I got pregnant one of my bf's told me about her fave maternity panties that I just had to have.
I let let her know that wasn't going to be necessary as I was a thong kind of girl thank you very much.
She said...just you wait.
I never bought those maternity panties.

I miss my real panties, the tiny ones. How long till we meet again? Nine weeks is a mighty long time.

Again, your mileage may vary, but I bled for almost 12 weeks. Hopefully it will not be that long for you. The first baby, I think that was prolonged because I had to have surgery on my cervix at 6 wks pp. But this second baby took almsot as long. Sorry, I know it sucks.

I remember my mom being in the recovery room when the nurse was cleaning me up shortly after my c/s. Even all drugged up, I could see the horror on her face when she saw how bad I was bleeding. She actually asked the nurse why I was bleeding at all, that she thought with a c/s they could get all the "junk" out so there would be little to no bleeding. Both I and the nurse stared at her in disbelief.

Here's hoping you and your thongs are soon reunited!

oh, in the interest of full disclosure, I was on a shitload of meds afterwards (blood pressure meds from the pre-e, and lovenox, which is a blood thinner) so perhaps those had an effect on how long I bled?

I didn't have a c-section, just wanted to pop in and say I feel bad for you. That really does suck :(

i bled for about 7 weeks. activity can increase or prolong bleeding. after birth the uterus isn't secured in place because it's settling back down into the pelvis. i don't know if your rate of activity is affecting your bleeding still, just an idea :) hope it stops soon. i hated having to wear underwear all the time, especially to bed.

I bled for about eight weeks. Like the pp'er, mine would get worse/return when I was too active. Hope it tapers soon!

No help here - just empathy! Yikes - I wore those "knickers" ( English for underwear) after my myomectomy and they're erm, snug!
I had no idea that one bled after a c-section for reasons of ignorance - like - well, your vagina isn't involved is she? Duh!
I wonder how many women actually read up and prepare for a c-section and know this stuff ahead of time. But I'm rambling!
Have you talked to your doc about this?
Are you anemic? I think you said you were. I really hope it stops soon so you can embrace the thong again!((((()))))

Ps I mean I'M the ignorant one about this all. Not you!!!

Oh, oh no. That sucks big big ass and I didn't realize it could go on for so long. If you could see me frowning right now...

I'm sorry girl, that's just not right and I hope it stops SOON. You should buy a sexy new thong and save it as a celebratory treat for the for when the bleeding is done.

Oh girl, that sounds miserable! I had no idea it went on that long after a c-section. I would go see an acupuncturist. I bet they could have it stopped pretty quickly. And I'm in total agreement with Poppy on the celebratory thong!

I don't remember but I was so happy when it stopped. I asked the nurse if I could use tampons and she said no because of increased chance of infection. It is very annoying. I hope you get a long break after this with no period.

I bled a long time. A long time. Can't remember exactly, but it was daily bleeding for a good while. And my first period after the bleeding stopped? Like a fucking bloodbath. <y periods are still messed up now - 7 months postpartum. They are superlong. Something for you to maybe look forward to. Ha!

I bled for about a month. Nine weeks would suck! I feel for you, sister!

Oh no, that's not fun at all. At least now I know what I have to look forward to.

I've been following your blog for a few months, as I was pregnant with twins until the 16th March when we welcomed two wonderful little boys. I have to say that I am now 8 days pp and the bleeding has almost completely stopped - I used the heavy maternity pads for about the first 5 days, then moved to ultra light ones which have been doing me since then. I also bought the big lady pants for the hospital etc, and am back to normal underwear today for the first time!!

I bled for about 11 weeks pp. It would get really light like it was going to stop then it would start up with force. Good luck! I'm sorry you have to go through that mess.

Oh puffer, that sucks! After my c-section, I bled for about 3-4 weeks. Granted I got my first period when chunk was 8 weeks old! I would check in with your doc though, just to be safe.

DANG! That's a really long time!! Mine was two years ago now, so I don't really remember, but I thought it was just a couple of weeks?!?! Because by my 6-week PP visit with the OB I was done. We were cleared to get our groove on again and I don't recall bleeding being any sort of issue there.

I hope it goes away soon, how exhausting!!

um, i think i bled for about two months - and it did pick up if i was more active. in fact it was an indicator of sorts. if it started up, then i knew i needed to rest.

i can see how it could be longer for you considering you delivered twins and i can also see how it can be longer because you clearly don't have as much rest time as someone who had a singleton.

if it's super heavy, i would be concerned. it was heavy for about a month, and then it was like a light pink spotting.

if you have weird pains associated with it, i would check in with your doctor about it. hell, if you are concerned, i would check in with your doctor.

fwiw, my first PP period was about 3 months after i had the baby, and i was a full time breast feeder. i'm not sure if these two are connected, but it would be interesting to know...

I only bled for about 2 weeks but I also took it really easy and tried not to leave my bed unless totally necessary...

Hope all is well with the 4 of you!
