Sippy Cup Down!

We're done with the sippy cups. As of this morning, I only offered the straw cups and everyone is as happy as can be.
That was easy!
I know it will sound crazy, but I bought 2 sippy cups when they were about 6 months old and those are the ONLY sippy cups they have ever had.
The boys usually (weather permitting) go out for a walk every morning after their nap and we would strap the sippy cups on, then take them off for lunch, then put them back on the stroller if they went somewhere in the afternoon and then back off for dinner.
Sounds crazy. Two cups that I washed off/out multiple times a day.
This is how frugal I am!

For the straw cups, I'm going to do something really crazy. I'm going to go buy two more so I don't have to move them on and off the stroller! Plus, I know they will use these longer than 5 or 6 months, so I will get my money's worth, for sure.
After their first birthday, we'll put milk in them for their meals and see how that goes....

By the way--the brand that we use is Tommee Tippee. BBRUS usually has them buy one/get one 50% off. They don't spill at all and the boys love them. The only thing you have to watch out for is if your kid throws them repeatedly, there is a piece inside which comes loose and you have to unscrew the lid and put it back in. If that piece is loose, they can spill a little bit.

How many sippy cups or straw cups do YOU have for your child?

We have gone through quite a few because every once in a while our son gets the urge to chew the end of the straw off!!

We have four, but could easily have three. Two siggs, one kleen kanteen (our favorite) and one born free "baby cup" sippy (Bird calls it a baby cup). Bird likes the siggs, so we keep them, but if they disappear, I won't cry. The kleen kanteen is way more awesome (and easy to clean). Of course these all are not at all no spill types of cups, but Bird can also drink out of an open cup, so she does fine with them.

I am a mom of indulgence and I wash everything in the dishwasher, so we have enough to get through a load every couple days- probably have 6 or so Avent cups plus I have the sippee cup inserts that convert our avent bottles to cups so that adds another 6 or so. Needless to say, chunk has an entire cabinet of "supplies" for eating and drinking. But, I have never had to wash a cup/bottle by hand and for that I am grateful--too much other stuff to do!

HA. We have 7 in constant rotation. 4 playtex (2 tall ones, 2 short) http://www.amazon.com/Playtex-Gripper-Straw-Pack-Colors/dp/B001OAKMEO
2 munchkin: http://www.amazon.com/Munchkin-Mighty-Grip-Straw-Cup/dp/B002I42MM0/ref=pd_sim_ba_4
and 1 iPlay: http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/184-3902089-8706948?asin=B0028OBO3S&AFID=Froogle_df&LNM=|B0028OBO3S&CPNG=baby&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=B0028OBO3S&ref=tgt_adv_XSG10001

That last one is by far my favorite- no leaking, easy to clean, straw reaches down to the bottom, ounce measurements on the side, cute design. They're expensive though, so I only have one and got it from Baby Half Off. Miles probably uses 2 straw cups a day (water, milk, maybe a smoothie) and I got tired of cleaning them constantly.

I think I just figured out our "problem". My kids drink from bottles, sippy cups and straw cups.

I have about 10 bottles (for milk), 4 sippy cups (for water) and 4 straw cups for juice or yogi sip. I also have 4 cheap sippy cups (3 for $3) that I take around with us so if we lose them, it's not a big deal.

We have so many, omg. We have a bunch of take n toss sippies. 2 Born free sippies. A tommee tippee sippy. She doesn't use the sippies much, though, if at all. Straw cups, we have a Nuby straw cup with a straight up straw coming out of the middle of the top. A Nuby straw cup that covers the straw. A munchkin straw cup, and two of the tommee tippee spill proof straw cups.

Um. If you can't tell, I'm trying REALLY REALLY HARD to get her to take milk from something that's not a bottle, because she makes a royal mess with it. XD

The Nuby with the plain old straw is her favorite, then the other Nuby. Then the munchkin. She won't take anything out of the tommee tippees. Dunno why, maybe b/c she can't see what's in them? Who knows.

(luckily, many of these were hand-me-downs, or bought with gift certificates.)

I despise all spill proof cups. I have yet to find one that doesn't ever spill.
And the bad thing is...even if they don't spill, my babies will drink and spit shit. OH AND now they unscrew the lids and dump the stuff out. Again. I have a hate hate relationship with cups and liquids at my house.

Good luck.

How did you teach them to drink thru a straw?? You'd think the whole 'sucking' thing would be intuitive, but no, L likes to chew on the straw...
