I'm Not Making You Read This

Let me just start off by saying that I think people who comment anonymously are complete pussies.

So when 'anonymous' said:
"I can dig the vegan thing, the travel to the south America thing with brand new babies, the rant about: inlaws, long drives, nipple pain, republicans, etc. I cannot climb on board for the funk train. Please quick shower everyday is a good thing."

Well, you can imagine how offended I was that she/he thought thinks I'm a.... VEGAN?! You can call me a dirty, funky hippie, but a VEGAN?
Seriously? Bacon is probably one of my favorite food groups. I eat steak once a week without fail. Loved Argentina where I could eat filet mignon every stinking day because that's what they do!
Speaking of Argentina...the babies were four months old! They were not 'brand new babies'. I have a friend who took her 6 week old to South East Asia for 6 weeks. Now that's a brand new baby. But four months? Golden age of traveling with babies. We polled the twin moms group and asked our pediatrician. They all said "go for it".

Also: (a) Argentina is not the same as 'South America'. It's not like we were taking our babies to Bolivia, one of the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. We traveled to a country very much like our own except that Argentinians LOVE babies and you are given first-class treatment as a mother. (b) Lots of people travel with babies and have a very good time. Seriously. Children are amazingly adaptable.
We travel and we'll be traveling again and you'll probably disagree with the plans we've got coming up, but that's OK.

But really, no one is making you read this blog. You see, the thing about this blog is that it's mine. It's my place to say what I want to say and how I want to say it.
If I choose to rant about my in-laws here, well, it's much better than actually blowing up in person at my in-laws. And if I write about a long drive (that I have to take because of the in-laws)...again, my blog!

Nipple pain? Such a huge part of motherhood for me that no one told me about. I wish someone else had blogged about it so I was more prepared for just how hard breast feeding would be.

Republicans. Really, I rant about Republicans? I mean, I'm not one and I don't agree with most of their policies but I'm actually socially liberal, fiscally conservative. And, uh, yeah....my blog! If I want to rant about Republicans, I will. But I usually don't.

But see, here's the thing: I read so many blogs about Motherhood and while I might not agree with many of the ways people might go about something--in the end it's their kid, their style, their life.

I don't need an anonymous blogger to make me feel bad for not showering everyday. And I don't think any new mother, especially in the first year and MOST especially with twins should be made to feel bad for not choosing that shower over a nap or a meal or even cleaning the kitchen (it has to be done at some point).
Parenting Magazine even agrees with me:
An article in the November issue of Parenting magazine suggests that stressed mothers need not shower daily, stating reassuringly: "The air is drier in the winter - which means you need your skin's natural lubricants."

Anonymous, you have obviously been reading my blog for a long time and keeping tabs on my life. But, I won't miss you if you go.

i'm thinking 'anonymous' doesn't have children. therefore, 'anonymous' is not qualified to give an opinion on child-related things. i have no idea how many days i went without showering in the beginning. it was definitely a luxury. with babies, you have to prioritize EVERYTHING. and honestly, showering turned out to not be all that important in the grand scheme of things. 'anonymous' = lame.

Amen!

Anonymous = Pussy

Bitch, please! Showering with twins is a luxury! And no doubt the second I get my freshly washed hair dry, one of my babes will spit up in it. Perhaps you should be thanking us for our contribution to water conservation instead...

Yikes! I've never gotten an anon comment like that; I think I would be so offended! This is your space, what a violation of that!

And yeah, I agree with the pp'ers that anon must not be a parent. Hell, even with a singleton I couldn't shower every day!

Jen said...

What an asshole to make such grand statements of judgement! I agree, if you can even own up to your
identity, leave the blog alone... I'm sure there is a well-scrubbed, Republican, homebody blogger who would love to have another reader. Peace out. Puffer, We love
you and your non-vegan, sore boobs but dedicated breastfeeding self!

Now there's a good reason to change your blog settings to not allow anonymous comments.

What an ass!

For the record, I wasn't going to shower today. Then, I got a haircut and there was hair all over me and it itched, so I had to was it off. I'm a daily girl in the summer months, not so much in the colder months. I shower mostly to wake myself up in the morning. And hair? Now that can go 2 to 3 days, at least. Oh, and I have really strong BO!

Sorry you got a stupid comment from someone who couldn't man up enough to write under their actual name. Moms skip showers in favor of sleep, it's like a law or something.

Amazing post! I was laughing out loud at that's right...your blog :) complete doofas who doesn't understand. Thanks for writing this made my night.

God, what a douche. Why do people say crap like that? Your response is classic though. I love it and I love your blog!

I think you gotta lol at this one...take it as a compliment: only successful bloggers get anonymous flames!

projectkjetil said...

Agreeing with Schroedinger on this one... you have arrived.

Any chance your blog allows folks to find you from Google? If so, the person might have been googling "the great unwashed" and got you. True, they would have had to be a little nuts to spend such quality time with your archives, but it's possible.

Regardless. Asshat.

Wow. Some people! Sadly, this person didn't learn a few lessons from their parents about how to treat other people. I'm sorry for this anonymous blogger.

I truly enjoy reading your blog and your take on things. Your children are happy, you are happy to be their mama through thick and thin, and that's all that matters!

I look forward to the day when I have my own blog about my own opinions/takes on things, that you may comment on. We are all different and that's a good thing! Afterall, how would we ever learn?!

Hey you, I just want to say I go days without showering and I don't have twins or a singleton...so there. AND, I have a very clean husband who probably wonders when his wife will stop working from home and get a little clean if you know what I mean. I am also not a vegan.

I think it's hysterical that a stranger's showering habits got Anon in a tizzy. What a delicate flower! Hahahahaha!

The Definition of Mom said...

Clearly anon is not a sahm mom of twins, I'm with you on the not showering everyday, north America we shower way too much, and I'm delighted if I get to shower every second day, and really that doesn't always happen..

Dre said...

Puffer, let me tell you... I have two boys, the youngest of which is 16 months, and I work outside the home and STILL don't shower every day. So I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to hear that other mommies don't!! Keep on doing what you are doing... you two ladies are doing a fabulous job raising those boys!! And THAT is all that matters.

cindyhoo2 said...

What an odd thing for anon to take issue with. Unless she is the person sharing your bed at night, I cannot see any reason to care about someone else's showering habits. I try to shower daily as I feel more awake and prepared for parenting....but that's me. I think we each have our own challenge to find what works best in our lives, and if that means you PTA frequently then rock on with your water conserving self!! :)

Anonymous flaming is weak.

But this was hilarious.

I scratch my head over what offends. It sounds like anonymous needs to find a group of friends who thinks and acts exactly like she does and stay far away from people who don't - and their blogs!

GO BACON!

queerstork said...

You didn't get any nasty responses to the circ post but you did for one about not showering every day? Wow, that's kind of funny. Just when you think you know what people will take issue with!

Seriously, they can't be reading that closely if they think you're vegan. But, hey, did you have to find it THAT offensive that they thought you were? I'm a little insulted that you were so insulted! ;)

K J and the kids said...

umm, you're not vegan ?
GREAT ! SEE YA !

For the Long Haul said...

People are such assholes. And NO, I am not posting that anonymously. Like you said, go away if you don't like reading. We appreciate the things you blog about!

Strawberry said...

Here's my take on it. I think 'anon' reads a whole lot of lesbian ttc blogs and lumped together everything they disliked reading about on all of them and then commented about that on your blog. Why else would they think you were vegan? I agree that it's something you should both roll your eyes at and laugh at. Dumb in its total ignorance.

PS- BACON LOVERS UNITE!
PPS- Can you track the ip and see if they've commented before? You know, if all your free time :)

JennyB said...

As a mom to 8 month old twins, it's next to impossible to shower everyday-there are just too many things that are more pressing than a shower. Deodorant, perfume and a good headband and I'm ready to go.

vee said...

I'm with cindyhoo - why the hell does this person care if you shower or not? It's not like they can smell you through the computer screen! Weirdo.

H2 said...

Oh man I'd be p*ssed off about the vegan thing! ;-) I LOVE bacon...or any part of the pig really.

And honestly showering every day is completely overrated. With babies and when they're older. It is COLD in my house and while showering is wonderful because it's super hot...I dread getting out of the shower because it is SO cold. So...screw her. We can shower when we want to!

Movie Gyrl said...

WOW how sad that ppl are so concerned about when you wash your ass!?!? You are grown!! I doubt you need any remarks on doing what you want to do. AS youve said your blog, your words, your opinions!!! Anonymous needs to get the soap bar stuck up out of their ass and worry about their own hygiene issues!! I enjoy your blog. It's funny, informative, ranty, and filled with all kinds of love. Screw them and their damn shower!!!

Anonymous said...

Hi- It's the evil anonymous poster. Just wanted to apologize as my comment was a bad attempt at humor. Obviously, that fell very short.

Sunny said...

Someone wants to criticize a new mama (of TWINS no less) for not showering every day? It's survival mode, dude. I don't shower and I eat cereal at least two times a day. If all 3 of my kids are alive at the end of the day, I consider myself a success. In your case, if your wife and boys aren't complaining that you smell, why is some random internet person? Whatevs!!

Signed,
The Smelly Republican (but also socially liberal) Meat-Eater

Sunny said...

That's what I get for not reading comments until after I post mine. Sorry, Evil Anonymous. :)

Next in Line said...

I am just relieved you aren't vegan :) I can't imagine bf'ing twins without meat. I am only feeding one and eat like a teenage boy.

reproducinggenius said...

Methinks Ms. Anonymous needs to find some more important things to care about than whether or not a mother of twins showers. Seriously! And not only that, but we blog to share our life experiences. This is your space to blog whatever you like, whether your readers want to read about it or not (and for the record, 99.9% of us want to read because we like what you say and how you say it). So there, Ms. Anonymous! :-P

i'm catching up on your story and posts as i just found you last week after our second miscarriage and am searching for info on donor ivf (since it looks like we may have to go down this path). have to say i LOVE your blog...and had to laugh at this because we DON'T have children (yet) and sometimes WE don't have time to shower everyday! crap - if we have twins wonder if we'll even get that in every two days! HAHA!!
